After reading Cook and Nifty Wench’s post about crosnes, we bought some at the farmers’ market on Saturday.
We sauteed them in butter…
…and added lots of salt and pepper and oregano from our garden (still following Cook and Nifty Wench’s lead).
They tasted like very good french fries, but they felt crisper and crunchier, like little carrots.

Update: erin’s kitchen has a post on crosnes, too: Crazy, Crispy Crosnes

I gotta tell ya…those crosnes are just a little too bug-like in appearance to get me to eat them, I think.
But they tasted like French fries?! Okay, I’ll reconsider.
Oh – I’ve never had those! In the mint family? Do the taste minty at all? I’ll have to look for them at our Farmer’s Market night, though I don’t recall seeing them – but the name sounds familiar – maybe I’ve read of them in the past…Thanks for the tip! I love trying new veggie dishes!
what fun!!!
